In the Midsomer Worthy village, during a rehearsal of the play “Amadeus”, the lead actor, Simon Fletcher, is killed by a sharp blade that was planted inside the costume. Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby and Sergeant Troy investigate and discover that Simon was a deeply unpopular actor and had no shortage of enemies among his castmates. However, when another member of the cast is also killed, Barnaby and Troy must race against time to find the killer before they strike again.
They eventually uncover a tangled web of professional and personal rivalries, sexual intrigue, and deceit among the theater community, leading them to the surprising identity of the murderer.
